The Scribe Series / Identity

HeraldryScribe

Design beautiful coats of arms.

In active development

A working structured composition application for building coats of arms from shields, tinctures, field divisions, ordinaries and charges.

Choose the heraldic elements; the software handles positioning, clipping and repeat arrangements without requiring specialist vector-design skills.

Heraldic structure, made approachable

Compose through heraldic ideas.

Choose the field, the colours and the charges. Let the composition take shape.

HeraldryScribe works with heraldic concepts. Tinctures are the colours and metals; ordinaries are geometric devices; charges are the symbols placed on the shield.

Automatic layouts keep repeated charges aligned and balanced. Historically informed terminology and restrained artwork guide the experience, with visual and print quality central to its development.

The current shield foundation

A focused heraldic toolkit.

The shield and field

A classic heater shield with seven field treatments, including plain, per pale, per fess and quarterly. Choose traditional tinctures or a custom colour.

Ordinaries and charges

Combine one ordinary with one charge group from a small starter library. Adjust tincture and scale within the structured design.

Automatic arrangements

Arrange one to six charges using layouts matched to the selected count, including pairs, two-and-one and three-two-one. The artwork is clipped within the shield.

Edit and keep your design

Undo and redo composition changes. Download an editable JSON design file and load it again later; saving is manual, with no automatic cloud storage.

SVG and PNG output

Export scalable SVG or a 1,800 × 2,100 pixel PNG, using the same shield rendering as the preview. Choose a parchment background or transparency.

Guidance as you compose

An initial rule-of-tincture advisory offers limited guidance for plain fields. It supports learning while leaving creative decisions with you.

Future development

From a shield to an achievement.

The shield is the foundation for a larger heraldic composition.

The longer-term direction is to grow outward into traditional achievements, with components anchored around the shield and balanced as a whole.

Beyond the initial shield system

Additional shield forms, helms, torses, crests, mantling and mottoes are future development. Supporters, compartments and richer decorative presentation belong to later stages too.

These components are not part of the current application. Development will expand the range while keeping the artwork coherent and the controls approachable.

Who it is for

Heraldic interest, with room to create.

For people exploring heraldry, family historians, researchers and educators, writers and worldbuilders, and tabletop or role-playing communities who want considered heraldic artwork without learning a freeform vector editor.

Development status

In active development

The working v0.1 shield editor supports manual save/load and SVG and PNG export. Development is focused on broadening the artwork, refining the experience and expanding outward from the shield foundation.
